Cold water is first poured into the top-left frosted white chamber, filled to the desired cup amount before being heated by the first of two brushed aluminum chambers beneath it. When this step is complete the top-mounted toggle switch will illuminate, allowing the user to engage water flow into the second aluminum chamber to mix with the dry grounds before percolation. The heating remains active within both aluminum chambers to ensure an optimal brewing temperature, with the fresh coffee finally dripping into the glass-handled carafe. Though more separate steps are involved, Delonghi claims that the entire DCM900 brewing process takes less time than the average household model. A permanent "Gold-Tone" filter is included that can provide up to a year of unwavering quality, with a two-hour auto shutoff function prevents unnecessary energy expenditure and past-its-prime coffee.
